This    is    probably    our    most    popular    trip amongst   our   guests.   It   is   a   fabulous   mix of   history,   relaxation,   fun   and   excitement. It    is    a    long    day    but    truly    a    day    to remember!   The   main   part   of   the   day   is   a boat   trip   around   the   islands   in   the   lagoon between     the     mainland     and     Kekova Island.     kekova     is     an     ancient     Lycian settlement     dating     from     aprroximately 450BC.   However   in   141AD   the   area   was struck     by     a     huge     earthquake     which caused   much   of   the   ancient   city   to   sink into   the   sea.   The   remains   of   the   city   can be   seen   both   on   the   island   of   Kekova and   under   the   water   beside   the   island. Our   boat   takes   us   right   over   the   ruins some   of   which   can   be   seen   through   the windows   in   the   bottom   of   the   boat.   Our time   on   the   boat   will   not   only   be   looking at    ruins,    there    will    be    plenty    of    swim stops   in   bays   and   creeks   and   also   some time   for   some   fun   and   silliness.   Snorkelling   here   is   popular   as   we   very   often   find   and   swim   with   loggerhead   turtles.   Also   popular   is jumping from the roof of the boat and body surfing as you are towed along by the boat. A Trip with Something More Whilst   a   boat   trip   over   a   sunken   city,   swimming   with   turtles,   and   jumping   into   the   sea   and   body   surfing   sounds   like   a   great   day   we have   a   lot   more   to   offer.   On   the   way   to   the   boat   we   will   pass   a   grain   store   built   by   Hadrian   where   a   treasure   trove   of   750kg   of   gold was   discovered,   we   will   also   pass   sulphur   springs   used   to   trat   achilles   after   the   battle   of   troy.   After   the   boat   trip   we   will   visit   St. Nicholas’   church,   where   many   legends   os   Santa   Claus   (St.   Nicholas)   were   born.   We   will   also   visit   the   rock   tombs   and   16,000   seater theatre   at   Myra.   the   theatre   which   now   mostly   comprises   roman   archalogical   remains,   has   a   long   and   fascinating   history.   much   of which is illustrated by the continuous development of the theatre over the years. Sometimes we also take the chance to go and visit the hilltop castle at Simena (entrance fee 10tl for those 13 or over). This is a day of fun featuring many bite sized pieces of history and culture. The transfer to Demre to pick up the boat and to visit the sites is approx. 1hr 15mins each way. THINGS TO REMEMBER Walking shoes, fort he visit to Myra. Sometimes we get a chance to explore one of the islands and the ground is quite rough. Camera Sun Cream Sun Hat Swimming and snorkelling gear (we bring a limited supply of masks and snorkels). Small amount of money for drinks, ice creams and maybe souvenirs at Demre (Church, rock Tombs and Theatre) There is an entrance fee to the Church and Myra of 15tl for those 23 and over. Drinking water for the initial journey will be provided at the hotel.
