When Is The Best Time To Walk The Lycian Way?
The weather is generally warm during the day and cool at night during the walking season (Feb – June & Sep – Dec). It can be quite hot in late June and September but even so walking is still enjoyable at these times as many of the routes are shaded.
The spring flowers are in abundance from mid February through to the end of May and the land is at it’s greenest during this time.
November and december are good for birdwatching as the winter migrants have arrived. April to June is the best time to see summer migrants and hunting birds are most active from February to May.
May, June, September and October are within the low part of the tourist season but the bars and restaurants are all open and daily boat trips and other activities are also available.
November and december sees an abundance of heathers, Cyclamen and Autumn shades as the leaves on broadleaf trees change colours and snowdrops appear in forest glades.
There can be rainy weather from October through to April but this is normally sporadic. The main rainy season is end of December through to the middle of February, when you can expect long periods of rain and heavy storms.
The summit of Mount Olympos is snow bound from December through to March and is also prone to rapid changes in weather that can make the climb to the summit quite dangerous.
Our own favourite times for walking are March, April, May (spring flowers), November & December (the routes are deserted but none the less beautiful!).
