Antalya is the regional capital and the fastest growing city in Turkey. It is a vibrant young city that has evolved from an ancient town. The old town near the harbour is delightful, with some Lycean and Roman ruins mingling with traditional Ottoman styled properties.

There are excellent shopping opportunities with a choice of local shops, major outlets, gold, silver and leather shops. there are also some good permanent markets where some real bargains can be found.

Antalya is also the cultural centre for the region. there is a superb museum housing the more important treasures found in the many ancient cities that litter Lycia. There are two excellent concert halls and exhibition centres. As well as these permanent locations there are frequent concerts held at the largest roman theatre in the world which is just outside Antalya city at Aspendos.

As well as the cultural wealth and shopping in Antalya there are also some wonderful natural sites to visit. These include the waterfalls at Duden, Kursunlu, and Manavgat.

There is the rafting and canoeing canyon near Manavgat known as Koprulu Kanyon. Even if you don't fancy the rafting it is a stunning drive to the head of the canyon and the roman bridge that crosses the canyon is worth seeing, and there are many good riverside restaurants.
